What is the NSC Examination?
- Commonly called “matric,” the NSC exam is the final Grade 12 examination, marking the end of formal school education.

When is it written?
- Annually from October to December.
Registration
- Learners must register before 15 March of the exam year for all subjects.
- Also applies to those part-time or retaking subjects.
Eligibility
- Current Grade 12 learners.
- Past candidates who want to improve results (if still registered as NSC).
Minimum Requirements to Pass
- Achieve 40% in 3 subjects (one must be a Home Language).
- Achieve 30% in 3 other subjects.
- Complete all School-Based Assessments (SBA).

What if I Fail the NSC Exam?
- Supplementary Exams in Feb/March have been phased out.
- Candidates can now register for the June NSC examination to improve results.
Remarking & Rechecking
- You can apply for your scripts to be remarked or rechecked within 14 days of receiving your results.
- Application forms are available at schools, exam centers, or district offices.
Withheld Results
- Usually due to irregularities.
- Candidates can appeal and should enquire in writing or through their school/district office.
Senior Certificate (Amended) – For Adults
- Available for adults 21 years and older.
- Based on current CAPS curriculum.
